Spanish Language & Culture


December 27, 2018 - January 19, 2019


The Spanish Language and Culture January Term Seminar is hosted by the International College of Seville (ICS) and is designed for students wishing to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Spain. For over three weeks students will live with local Spanish hosts in Seville, enroll in intensive Spanish language courses, and participate in cultural activities such as flamenco shows, cooking classes, city walking tours, boat cruises, tapas tastings, and even a special New Years Eve dinner. Faculty members, as well as local guides and specialists, will deepen students' understanding of the people, customs, and culture of Spain in a hands-on, experiential learning environment. 

Students can choose one of the following six-credit courses:

  • Spanish 101-102: Beginning Spanish I & II
  • Spanish 201-202: Intermediate Spanish I & II
  • Spanish 301-302: Advanced Composition and Conversation I & II

Sample cultural visits in Seville include:

  • Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See
  • Islamic & Jewish Quarters
  • San Jorge Castle
  • Triana Market
  • Alcázar of Seville
  • Plaza de España y de América

Program Fees

January 2019: $4,850

Program fees include tuition for 6 credits, lodging, medical insurance, entrance fees for scheduled cultural activities, transportation for day trips, breakfast daily and most dinners.

Students who enroll in a January Term Seminar and the spring semester in Aix-en-Provence consecutively are eligible to receive a $2,000 grant credited to their spring semester invoice. In order to be eligible to receive the grant, students must participate in the Early Start Program during the week between the end of the January Term Seminar and the start of the spring semester. The Early Start Program allows students to move in with their French hosts a week before the semester begins, receive French language instruction, and participate in local cultural activities!
